How much does each tin hold?
Our spice tins are sized by volume. The 4 oz. tins hold approximately 1/2 cup. Grocery store spices are sold by their Net Weight, not by volume. So when you go to the grocery store and purchase a 1.75 oz. of Cardamom, it likely will not fit in our 4 oz. tin.
Pour the contents of one of your full grocery store spice into a dry measuring cup. Generally speaking, it will be 3/4 cup of spice. So if you purchase most of your spices in the grocery store and you don't want to have some of your spices in your new tins and some of your spices still taking up room in your cabinet, then purchase at least 6 oz. tins. Our 6 oz. tins hold approximately 3/4 cup--the perfect size for pouring an entire grocery store bottle into it.
If you purchase your spices in small amounts at a health food store or a grocery store with bulk spices, then 2.5 oz. and 4 oz. tins are just right for your needs.
