Eddie and I are inseparable - we both enjoy similar hobbies - painting, museums, antiques. Eddie's lifelong love is music (his instruments of accomplishment are bass, guitar, upright bass, and cello) and mine is cooking.
After experiencing numerous hurricanes where we lived in southern Louisiana - more recently - Katrina and Rita - and having vacationed mostly in eastern Tennessee - we decided to invest in a small piece of property for retirement there and to use as a place to retreat during hurricanes. It turned out that an incredible real estate agent showed us enchanting places in and around a quaint little town called Tellico Plains. We fell in love with a small farmhouse with 4 1/2 acres on a beautiful hilltop. It didn't take us long to sell everything in Louisiana and move on up to Tennessee. I brought my "Cajun" cooking heritage with me.
We've been here almost 3 years now and I can't begin to explain the beneficial results we're reaping since this life altering choice was made - we left the "rat race". Life is simple. We grow our own vegetables and fruits, we breathe fresh air, and we drink pure spring water from the kitchen faucet. People are "right neighborly" with lots of small town activities - like the Town Square Candlelight Walk at Christmas time. I made Gumbo for 350 and served to the town people - some of whom had never even heard of Gumbo. It was a big hit! There are ever present views of mountains, rivers, lakes and creeks which are soul soothing. It is truly God's country.
Eddie and I like unique, natural things. We made the rock backsplash behind the new kitchen sink from rocks picked up from our favorite picnic area on the Tellico River. I love to cook and Eddie loves to eat. Therefore, many spices were jammed behind cabinet doors. When I found the Magnetic Spice Tins - it solved that problem. The tins are unique and a natural solution to the problem. I absolutely love the convenience of having all spices available - handy, in reaching distance and easily able to see if I need to pick up more. Here is a picture of our spices in their new home -a frame box Eddie made from leftover poplar wood from the kitchen farm table he made for me.
I wish that we could put in a "tin" what we have found here to send out to all of you when life just becomes "too much". Oh, and that wonderful real estate agent, she is now my boss - we became instant friends the day we met.
We thank God daily for our many blessings.
